About Me
Guy Walter Elsey (1973)
My life has taken me around the world and back, almost: from my birth place in England, half my life in New Zealand and Australia, and finally to Holland. My psychological interest began during my university days in New Zealand, where I graduated with a degree in the Classics (Greek and Roman language, history and philosophy). Following this my seeking led me to a post graduate study in Management.
At this time I worked as a volunteer telephone counsellor for a couple of years. I loved the vitality of the work and its meaning. The basis was the work of Carl Rogers, whose phrase “unconditional positive regard,” struck a chord in me: no matter the behaviour or condition of a person, they are worth attention as a human being. We are all in this together. Here I also came in contact with a powerful belief and related method: each person knows best for themselves and has all they need within, only sometimes it takes help for them to find it.
During this time I was introduced to Gestalt. It turned out much of the philosophy I had studied now had a practical application. In Sydney I came back to my interest in Gestalt and trained there for 4 years at post graduate level with the Illawara Gestalt Institute.
I have lived in Holland over 4 years now, and followed courses in Gestalt Art and Writing at the Gestalt Centrum de Walvis in Amsterdam with Tine van Wijk. Currently I am training at NSGestalt in Amsterdam for the Dutch qualification.
